The name Minocqua is derived from the Ojibwe word meaning “Good Woman.” Native peoples hunted and fished these lands for generations before French fur traders arrived. In the late 1800’s the area developed a lucrative logging industry supported by a railway line.
At Dick & Dolly’s Cottage you will find art, books and resources as well as five, authentic antique maps from the 19th century that celebrate the heritage and preserve the history of those who lived on and preserved this pristine, lakefront land before us.
